Octoberfest – Baked Beans

These are a comfort food classic.  They make a great side to my BBQ Baked Chicken and Braised Red Cabbage.  They can also simply be served with rice for an easy meal.

Baked Beans

Servings: 4

-1 can baked beans or pork and beans

-1/2 onion, diced small

-3-4 garlic cloves, minced

-1/4 cup spicy tomato sauce (or ketchup plus 3/4 tsp hot pepper paste, I prefer the spicy tomato sauce!)

-1/4 cup brown sugar

-2 Tbls soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

-2-3 Tbls rice wine (or beer)

-1/4 tsp pepper

-2 Tbls bacon bits (optional)

1) Saute the onions in a little oil (1 tsp) for about 2-3 minutes.

2) Add the remaining ingredients to the pot and let simmer for about 5-7 minutes.

3) Pour the beans into a baking dish and bake at 230 degrees Celsius for 30-45 minutes until the beans are thick.

Below are the ingredients used in this recipe.  All the ingredients can be found at Home Plus.
