Chocolate-Banana Protein Shake

Protein powder is often expensive and hard to find in Korea.  If you are looking to add some extra protein to your diet, this is a simple and delicious recipe which uses tofu (soy) as the  source of protein.  It’s great after a workout or if you need a pick-me-up.

Servings: 1 (this recipe can easily be doubled)


-1/2 cup milk (I used low-fat milk)

-1/4 of a 380 g package (1.5 servings) firm tofu (I like Pulmuone because it also adds fiber, see picture below)

-2 tsp instant coffee granules (optional)

-1 Tbls cocoa powder

-1 Tbls agave nectar or honey (more if you like it sweeter)

-1 Tbls Hershey’s chocolate syrup

-1/2 of a frozen medium-sized banana


*Note- you can substitute the agave/honey and cocoa powder by using 2 Tbls of chocolate syrup, but I like the added nutrition of cocoa powder.  You could also sub the chocolate syrup by adding 1 more Tbls each of cocoa powder and agave/honey.

1) Mix the coffee granules, cocoa powder and milk together in a cup to dissolve.  Add the agave/honey and chocolate syrup.

2) Then add all of the ingredients into a blender.  Blend for about 1 minute until it is frothy and everything is mixed well.
